Farafan is the first and only private sector company in Iran
engaged in engine manufacturing. Success was achieved by
concentraiting managerial and technical aspects at Farafan and
subcontracting part production to other domestic compaiens,
thereby making most efficient use of both capital and available
manufacturing capacity.
Currently Farafan is able to carry out design changes on the
engine. The original Renault 5 engine was an old design with a
very high level of polluting emissions. Farafan started a renovating
project on this engine and was able to reduce emissions from
twice the acceptable level according to ECE R15-04 in the original
engine to 20% lower than the ECE R15-04 requirements in the
new design.
